A 54-year-old man has been brought before Dublin District Court charged in connection with a drugs seizure in Co Louth.

11.5kg of cocaine, with an estimated street value of €900,000, was discovered yesterday during the search of a rented house in Charleville, Dunleer.

The search was part of an operation involving local gardaí and members of the Garda National Drugs Unit.

Patrick Donoghue, originally from Co Laois, but with an address in Charleville, was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of the drug for sale or supply.

Mr Donoghue made no reply when he was charged at Drogheda Garda Station.

He was granted legal aid and remanded in custody to Clover Hill District Court next week.
