Gardaí in Cork are investigating the circumstances that led to an eight-month-old baby suffering serious head injuries.
The baby is critically ill and on a life-support machine in Cork University Hospital.
The boy was admitted to the hospital 10 days ago having suffered serious head injuries.
The gardaí were contacted by the Health Services Executive about the incident on the day the child was admitted for medical treatment.
