At least three people have been killed in an attack targeting an Afghan governor in the Khost province of Afghanistan.
It is understood a suicide car bomber drove his vehicle into a convoy carrying the governor and his security protection. All of those killed were bodyguards.
Khost lies near the border with Pakistan and has suffered a spate of attacks in recent months.
The attack was the latest in a wave of such incidents blamed on Taliban militants.
The Islamist militia has stepped up suicide bombings as part of its insurgency against the US-backed government led by President Hamid Karzai.
Earlier, two children were killed in crossfire during clashes with militants in the southern Afghan province of Ghazni.
The boys, from a nomadic tribe, were killed in the area where the Taliban is believed to be holding 19 South Korean hostages.
