A former Irish international footballer is in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital following an assault outside a pub in the city on Friday night.
Miah Dennehy, who is in his late 50s, played for Cork Hibernians, Nottingham Forest and Walsall in the 1970s, and was capped 11 times for the Republic of Ireland.
He was outside the Fob and Gill pub in Mayfield on the north side of Cork city when he was attacked between 7pm and 8pm last Friday.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the assault and anyone with information is asked to contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021 455 8510.
