A 27-year-old man held for questioning in connection with an aggravated sexual assault on a woman at a Galway city GAA pitch on Thursday morning has been released without charge.
The incident happened between 1am and 4am at Walter Macken Road and St James' Pitches in Mervue.
The man was arrested earlier today after a number of searches were carried out in the east side of Galway City.
Gardaí are anxious to talk to anyone who was in the vicinity of St James' Pitches, Walter Macken Road, on Wednesday night or Thursday morning and who may have seen anything they feel was suspicious or relevant to this incident.
In particular, they would like to talk to a man who cycled through St.James' Pitches at the time and to another young man who met the victim in a distressed state, not far from Walter Macken Road, after the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room at Galway Garda Station on 091-538070, or 091-538000, or the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
