Fisher Price is recalling more than 22,000 toys that have been on sale in Ireland since May.
Its parent company Mattel is recalling 1.5 million toys worldwide because the paint used on them may contain lead.
The Fisher Price toys being recalled include Dora The Explorer and Diego products as well as toy music machines.
Mattel says the toys were made by a contract manufacturer in China using a non-approved paint pigment.
The company says no injuries have been caused so far but parents should contact it to arrange for the toys to be returned and replaced with ones of equal value.
Mattel has launched an investigation into how the paint came to be used on the toys.
More than 22,000 of the affected toys were manufactured for the Irish market.
A spokesperson for Smyth's Toystores said Dora and Diego type preschool toys were removed from their shelves last Friday.
Anyone who may have brought the products can return them to the stores immediately and get a full refund.
