An attack in the Iraqi province of Diyala has left at least 29 people dead.
Gunmen entered the village of Duwailiyah overnight, in an attack reminescent of a similar assault in May in the remote village of Qara Lus in the same province.
Iraqi army spokesperson Raghib Rawi al-Omaili said the gunmen were wearing Iraqi military uniforms in order to confuse the victims.
He confirmed that many women and children were among the victims of the attack.
Diyala, one of the most dangerous regions in Iraq after Baghdad, is currently being targeted by a major US-led operation.
But as troops have pushed through the city, militants appear to have fled to the surrounding region.
Elsewhere, two car bombs have been detonated in Baghdad, including one near the Iranian embassy which killed four people and wounded two more.
Another suicide car bombing of an Iraqi army patrol in Zayuna area killed seven people and wounded eight.
Mass funerals have been held in northern city of Kirkuk for the victims of a truck bomb and two car bombs that killed 85 people yesterday.
