Gardaí have launched a murder investigation in Drogheda after a 32-year-old Romanian man was stabbed to death in the town.

The man was found in a collapsed state by friends in the front garden of the house he was renting in the Brookville estate, at about 11pm last night.

He was then rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

A post mortem was completed at Louth County Hospital today by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy who determined that the death was due to stabbing.

Superintendent Gerry Smith of Drogheda gardaí is appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of the house in Brookville between 5pm and 10pm last night to contact the incident room at Drogheda Garda station.
