Four men have been charged with trying to blow up fuel tanks and pipelines at John F Kennedy airport.

A jury in New York has charged the men on five counts of conspiracy to bomb the airport.

Prosecutors say they have links with Islamist militants in the Caribbean and South America.

Russell Defreitas, Kareem Ibrahim, Abdul Nur and Abdul Kadir, a former MP for the Caribbean nation of Guyana, were all arrested earlier this month.

Mr Defreitas, a former cargo worker at the airport, is to appear before a judge on 11 July.

The other suspects are currently fighting extradition in Trinidad.
