Enda Kenny - Ahern remarks disgraceful

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has said he has heard no credible explanation for the sequence of events surrounding Beverley Flynn this week.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern indicated that he may appoint Ms Flynn as a junior minister at some point in the future following her legal settlement with RTÉ.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio's News at One, Enda Kenny said he regarded the Taoiseach's comments on the Independent Mayo TD in advance of her legal case as unprecedented and disgraceful behaviour.

Mr Kenny, who has been endorsed by his parliamentary party to continue as leader, said his long-term ambition is to make Fine Gael the largest party in the Dáil.

He claimed the 20 seats gained by Fine Gael in last month's General Election was an unprecedented gain.
