Gordon Brown - New anti-terror laws

Gordon Brown is planning a raft of new anti-terror measures when he becomes the British Prime Minister later this month.

Mr Brown wants to revive proposals to further extend the 28-day limit on detention-without-charge to 90 days.

A similar move was rejected by Members of Parliament in 2005 – it was Tony Blair's first defeat as Prime Minister in the House of Commons.

Mr Brown will also table changes to allow police to continue questioning after suspects have been charged.

And he will call a cross-party review of laws banning the use of phone-tap evidence in court.
