10 dead after Iraq car bomb blast

A car bomb hit an Iraqi police convoy carrying prisoners and ripped through a nearby market in Balad Ruz northeast of Baghdad today, killing 10 people.

The bomb exploded near the Hurriya police station and a fruit and vegetable market, killing 10 and wounding 25.

Balad Ruz lies northeast of  Baghdad. It has been the scene of some the fiercest fighting in recent weeks between Iraqi and US forces and the Sunni insurgency.
