Reports today suggest that in excess of €200,000 was stolen during a raid on a security van in Gorey, Co Wexford yesterday.

The money was stolen despite an overhaul in the security of cash-in-transit deliveries over the past two years.

Security guards were refilling the ATM at a service station on the Arklow Road in Gorey yesterday morning when they were confronted by three masked men, who appeared to have a handgun.

The raiders fled the scene in a black Volkswagen Golf with an 06-D registration and headed towards Dublin.

One of the security guards received minor injuries and was treated by a local doctor.

The hunt for the men involved in the raid is continuing today and so far there have been no arrests.
