A Belfast court has jailed an 18-year-old man for eight years after he admitted raping a 15-year-old girl.

Michael Quinn, of Glasvey Drive in Twinbrook in Belfast, pleaded guilty to two charges of rape, one of indecent assault and four of false imprisonment in August 2005.

The victim, who is from England, was on holiday in west Belfast at the time of the attack.

She and three friends were confronted by two teenage boys, the court was told.

While his accomplice held her friends at bay, Quinn dragged the schoolgirl to a nearby golf course and raped her twice.

His trial heard how after the attack, someone used the victim's mobile phone to call her mother in England to boast about the rapes.

Sentencing Quinn, the judge said that despite his belated guilty plea to the charges, there was little evidence to indicate he felt any genuine remorse for his conduct.

Afterwards the PSNI commended the bravery and courage of the victims of the attack in standing up against the perpetrators.
