A 27-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the false imprisonment, sexual assault and assault causing harm of a woman in the Dublin mountains last November.

Robert Quigley of Seskin View Road, Tallaght in Dublin appeared before the Circuit Criminal Court in Tralee, where he was remanded in custody to Arbour Hill Prison.

He is to appear again before the court on 12 July for sentencing.

An application to place his name on the Sex Offenders Register from today was granted by Judge Carroll Moran.

Quigley was arrested in Kerry on 23 November and charged with the false imprisonment, sexual assault, and assault causing harm of the woman at Military Road, Glencree, Co Dublin on 19 November.

Detective Sergeant Joseph O'Hara of Shankill Garda Station in south Dublin told Castleisland District Court that the accused had met the woman in Harcourt Street in Dublin city centre.

Quigley took her in his car to the Dublin mountains where he used a cable to tie her hands.

He then drove around the area for five hours before assaulting her with a stick over the head and face.

The judge ordered that restrictions on reporting the name of the accused be lifted but that the identification of his victim be protected.
