Up to 60 Taliban fighters, including three commanders, are reported to have been killed in NATO-led air strikes in Afghanistan.
A provincial police chief said two Taliban bases in the Zahri district of the Kandahar province had been hit.
The strikes were part of a joint operation involving foreign and Afghan security forces.
Zahri, about 30km east of Kandahar city, has been a flashpoint for Taliban violence in recent months.
Meanwhile, the former top military commander for the Taliban, Mullah Dadullah, has been replaced by his younger brother Mullah Bakht Mohammad.
Mr Dadullah was killed on Friday in a battle in Helmand Province.
