A 15-year-old boy died in hospital in Coleraine last night hours after being rescued from the sea off the Co Derry coast.
Robert McMullan from Coleraine had been with a friend when their dinghy capsized off Castlerock Strand.
An air and sea search involving coastguards on both sides of the border was put into operation after his friend managed to swim ashore and raise the alarm.
A PSNI helicopter located the teenager in the water and guided a coastguard boat from Greencastle in Co Donegal to pick him up.
He was then lifted into an Irish coastguard helicopter from Co Sligo and taken to hospital, but died several hours after being admitted.
