More than 3,000 counterfeit DVDs and CDs have been seized as part of a garda investigation in the midlands.

The goods were found at five houses in the Edgeworthstown area of Co Longford which were searched this morning.

Gardaí based at Granard in Co Longford were assisted by staff from the Irish National Federation Against Copyright Theft during the ongoing investigation.

The houses were searched shortly after 8am this morning and more than 40 DVD recorders and 3,000 CDs and DVDs were discovered at two of the rented properties.

Gardaí say a significant number of the DVDs contained pornography.

It is thought the material being recorded was destined for sales at markets in the border and midlands area.

Also found were 60 air rifles, which gardaí believe were also destined for sale at various markets.

The goods and equipment seized are valued at well over €80,000.

No arrests have yet been made, but a follow up investigation is continuing.
