A new coalition of development and environmental organisations has challenged the next Government to take radical action to combat global warming.

Major organisations like Concern and Trócaire are backing the campaign, called 'Stop Climate Chaos', and are seeking public support.

The planet is heating up and the latest Met Éireann data from Dublin Airport showed that yesterday was the hottest recorded April day in two decades.

According to the UN, this global warming is going to lead to devastating summer droughts and winter floods, which will impact worst on the world's poorest people.

As a consequence, Concern, Trócaire and Christian Aid have entered into a new coalition with Friends of the Earth, An Taisce and the National Youth Council to put pressure on politicians.

It was due to publish its demands, including a 3% year-on-year reduction in Irish greenhouse gas emissions, this morning.

The first question for the coalition will be how this ambitious target can be achieved without endangering economic growth and competitiveness.
