'Rossport Five' man wins environmental prize

Willie Corduff, one of the so-called Rossport Five, is among six people who have each won a Goldman Environmental Prize.

The campaigner against the Corrib gas pipeline in Co Mayo, Willie Corduff, is among six people who have each won a Goldman Environmental Prize.

Each of the six will receive $125,000 (€92,000) in recognition of the environmental work in six different regions around the world.

Mr Corduff, a Co Mayo farmer, was one of the so-called Rossport Five, who staged protests against the gas pipeline.

The five were also jailed for being in contempt of a High Court order in relation to the development.

Mr Corduff will receive his award on Monday.
