Clonakilty - Man charged with murder

A 32-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his former partner at Clonakilty in west Cork last week.

Hadim Kedik, of Connolly Street in Clonakilty, was brought before Macroom District Court this morning and charged with the murder of Rose Patterson.

After a brief hearing, he was remanded in custody to appear in court again next Tuesday.

30-year-old Rose Patterson's body was found by gardaí at a flat at the rear of a barber shop at Connolly Street just before noon last Thursday, after they had received a call for assistance.

Detectives believe she died in the early hours of the morning or on the previous night.

Hadim Kedik, a Turkish national, was also in the flat when gardaí arrived, as was the couple's two-and-a-half year old son, Firhan.

Ms Patterson's other two daughters, eight-year-old Naomi and five-year-old Veronica, were later found at their mother's home at Park View in Clonakilty after gardaí forced their way into the house.

Gardaí began a murder investigation after a post mortem examination on Ms Patterson's body revealed she had died violently. Her funeral is to take place in Clonakilty this evening.

Mr Kedik's neck and hands were heavily bandaged when he was brought before the court this morning, and Judge James McNulty ordered that he receive all necessary medical attention while he is remanded in custody in prison.
