A 29-year-old rape victim, whose case led to the resignation of the Progressive Democrats TD Bobby Molloy, has settled her legal action against a hospital in Galway for failing to protect her from her father.

Barbara Naughton, who is from Galway but lives in Dublin, sued University College Hospital in Galway for failing to protect her from being attacked by her father when she was a patient there almost ten years ago.

Patrick Naughton from Cinn Mhara, Camus in Connemara, is serving an 11-year sentence for raping his daughter.

His appeal against his conviction and sentence is due to be heard later this year.

His trial almost collapsed in 2002 after it emerged a phone call had been made from Bobby Molloy's office to the judge presiding over the case, before sentencing had taken place.
