The Irish Water Association has called for the public to take care at the beaches this weekend.

The IWA says that there an average of 13 people drown every month and that many people will take to the water for the first time in the year this weekend.

They have advised that lifejackets should be worn on boats, with care taken on the inland waterways, on rivers and at beaches.

The association has also warned that sea water temperatures are still very cold despite the hot weather.
