The EU has challenged other industrialized nations, including Canada and the US, to match the EU target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Yesterday, EU leaders endorsed targets to slash emissions to 20% below 1990 levels by 2020, as well as adopting targets on the use of renewable energy sources.
It is the most ambitious European plan yet to counter climate change.
