'The Departed', a gangster film set in the Irish neighbourhood of south Boston, won the Oscar for Best Picture at last night's Academy Awards.
The movie also picked up three other Oscars, including Best Director for Martin Scorsese.
'An Inconvenient Truth', the documentary on global warming featuring former US Vice-President Al Gore, won Best Documentary.
'The Departed' was adapted from a Hong Kong-made movie called Infernal Affairs. It picked up Oscars for Adapted Screenplay, Editing and a first Best Director for veteran movie-maker Martin Scorsese.
Its intricate plot tells the tale of an undercover police officer in an Irish-American criminal gang in Boston.
In the acting categories, the Oscar for Best Actress went to the widely-tipped Helen Mirren for her role in The Queen, and to Forest Whitaker for his portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in 'The Last King of Scotland'.
The Spanish movie 'Pan's Labyrinth' won three Oscars, while the Best Foreign Language movie was 'The Lives of Others' from Germany.
