Co Antrim man found guilty of Spain killing

A 21-year-old man from Northern Ireland has been convicted of killing a woman whose body was found on a beach on the Canary Islands almost two years ago.

Vincent Michael Traynor, from Loughguile, Co Antrim faces up to 15 years in jail when he is sentenced next week.

The victim, a 23-year-old Nigerian woman, worked as a prostitute on Gran Canaria.

Her beaten and strangled body was found in July 2005 on a beach at a holiday resort on the south coast of the island.

Traynor said he was approached by the woman as he left a disco on the first day of his holiday.

He admitted in court that he hit the woman during a row over the price of her services.

He also said he may have kicked her while she was lying on the sand but he insisted she was alive when he left her.

A jury found him guilty of homicide.

The presiding judge will pass sentence next week.
