Inquiry after raid on south Dublin post office

Gardaí are investigating an armed raid on the post office in Nutgrove Shopping Centre in south Dublin this afternoon.

Three armed men entered the post office and robbed an estimated €5,000.

They made off in a small blue car, possibly a Ford Focus.

The raid happened at around noon, just after a cash-in-transit van had delivered a substantial amount of cash to the post office in Rathfarnham.

It is understood a home-made battering ram was used to gain access to the staff area behind the counter, but most of the cash was not taken.

It is not clear if the men had firearms, but no shots were fired and no one was injured, although both staff and customers were at the scene when the robbery took place.

A van was found burnt out nearby.

The scene has been preserved and gardaí are appearing for anyone with information to contact them.
