The Irish Medical Council has published the transcripts of its fitness to practice inquiry into three doctors who cleared Dr Michael Neary of any wrongdoing in 1998.

The council decided at a meeting earlier this month to accept the findings by its Fitness To Practise Committee of professional misconduct against Dr John Murphy, Dr Bernard Stuart and Professor Walter Prendiville.

This followed an examination by the committee of the doctors' actions as outlined in the report by Judge Maureen Clarke of the Lourdes Hospital Inquiry.

The committee acted following a complaint by the Medical Council and the patient representative organisation, Patient Focus.

The committee's inquiry took place over four days in November, December and January.
