Three men facing 20 charges in Cork court

Three men have appeared before a district court in Cork on a total of 20 charges following a four-hour standoff with gardaí yesterday.

20-year-old John Paul O'Driscoll, his brother Christy, aged 25, and their 25-year-old cousin Jason O'Driscoll, all with addresses at the Campsite, Killalough, Glanmire, appeared before the district court following what gardaí described as a serious incident at Killalough yesterday.

The court was told that during the course of the standoff - two gardaí were allegedly assaulted and six vehicles, including three garda cars, were damaged.

The three were also charged with allegedly using slash hooks, iron bars and rocks during the incident.

An application by their solicitor to have all three released on bail so that they could attend the funeral of their uncle who died at the weekend was turned down.

The judge agreed to a State application to remand the men in custody to appear again before the court on 16 February.
