The Human Rights commissions north and south of the border have called for the appointment of a senior judge to examine the need for a cross-border public inquiry into the Omagh bombing.
Northern Ireland's Chief Commissioner, Professor Monica McWilliams and Dr Maurice Manning, President of the Irish Human Rights Commission want the British and Irish Governments to review the circumstances surrounding the attack in August 1998 to see if a public inquiry was needed.
They said the review should be along the lines of that carried out by retired Canadian Judge Peter Cory, who examined allegations of collusion in six high profile murders in the North and south.
They said they believed there was enough new material that will help the person appointed to decide whether or not the truth about Omagh will be found through a public inquiry.
The families of some of the victims have welcomed the call.
