Green Party - Attacks Govt on emissions

The Green Party has published a paper outlining how, if in government after the next election, it would ensure that all policies supported the reduction of global warming.

It says greenhouse gases are the biggest challenge this century and that Irish policies, such as the National Development Plan, must take account of it.

Just yesterday, a British study suggested that 2007 is shaping up to be hottest year on record as a result of climate change.

The Green Party paper attacks the coalition for allowing our greenhouse gases to go significantly above the Kyoto Protocol limit.

The Greens state that, if in Government, all policies, particularly transport and energy, would be climate change proofed.

The Party claims failure to maintain our first Kyoto limit is likely to cost us €750 million, and a much more difficult limit is just around the corner.
