Fine Gael's Justice Spokesman Jim O'Keeffe has called on the Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, to provide gardaí with extra resources to tackle what he called the apparently all-pervasive gun culture in the country.
Mr O'Keeffe's call follows two separate shooting incidents in Dublin on Friday night.
Mr O'Keeffe said they were the latest in a seemingly never-ending spate of gun crime.
The two men who were shot on Friday night are still recovering in hospital.
