Owner of Atlantic Dawn passes away

Kevin McHugh, the owner of the world’s largest fishing vessel, the Atlantic Dawn, has died.

Mr McHugh, originally from Achill Island in Co Mayo, was based in Killybegs, Co Donegal.

In 1997, he launched the controversial €70 million vessel, the Atlantic Dawn, which has a capacity for 7,000 tonnes of fish.

He had been ill for the last couple of months and died in the Mater private hospital in Dublin tonight.
