Inchicore - Murder investigation launched

Gardaí have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in an assault in Dublin.

The victim has been named as Christy Cawley.

The 33-year-old, a father of six, is understood to have been severely beaten and stabbed during the attack.

He was found in a critical condition by gardaí who had been called to a disturbance at Tyrone Place flats in Inchicore at around 8pm last night.

He was brought to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The attack was the second fatal stabbing to be reported in Dublin yesterday.

A 23-year-old father of one, Anthony McGrath, died from a single stab wound to the chest during an attack in Blanchardstown in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Gardai detained a 35-year-old man who was later released without charge.

A file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
