At least 14 civilians have been killed and three wounded in a bomb blast in southern Afghanistan

A minibus carrying children and elderly passengers was caught in an explosion in Tirin Kot, the capital of Uruzgan province.

It is understood the blast was caused by a mine that had been planted in the road outside the town.

Meanwhile, Afghan officials are continuing their investigation into the deaths of a number of civilians in a NATO attack in Kandahar province.

The interior ministry in Kabul said around 60 people were killed during the attack by the NATO International Security Assistance Force, and it is thought at least half of those killed were civilians.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has set up a commission to investigate the incident and called for better coordination between Afghan and foreign troops to avoid further civilian casualties.

The deaths occurred in the Panjwayi area, about 35km west of Kandahar city, an district that has been the focus of an ongoing anti-Taliban operation.
