Gardaí have established that the drugs seized in an apartment in Clondalkin last night are worth over ¤11 million.
53kg of heroin along with 25kg of herbal cannabis were found when members of the South Central Crime Task Force searched the apartment at Aras na Cluana off the Nangor Road.
The drugs were discovered wrapped in brown and blue cellophane packed in sports bags and boxes.
They also found a sub machine gun, a silencer for a hand gun, four magazines and thousands of rounds of 9mm machine gun ammunition.
Two men managed to escape from the second floor apartment, but gardaí have identified them and expect to make a number of arrests in the coming days.
Drugs paraphernalia including an electronic weighing scales and mixing agents were also found in the apartment.
Gardaí said the seizure was connected to Operation Anvil, which was set up to tackle gangland crime.
They say the drugs are thought to belong to a Crumlin-based criminal gang, although Ballyfermot drug dealers are also suspected of being involved.
