It has been revealed that declassified US State Department documents show up to six Islamist groups have had cells operating in Ireland.
The documents, which date from 2003, show that al-Qaeda was one of a number of terrorist groups with active members here.
RTÉ News has established that much of the information is actually based on intelligence gathered by gardaí.
