A former President of University College Cork has supported calls for an independent investigation into allegations of serious mismanagement at the college.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio's Morning Ireland, the former President of UCC, Professor Michael Mortell, said the only way the college could move on is for the allegations to be independently investigated.

The allegations have been made by a former Vice President of the college, Professor Des Clarke.

Prof Clarke has sent a file detailing claims of financial irregularities as well as of bullying and intimidation of staff to the Minister for Education, Mary Hanafin.
