Transport Minister opens Fermoy by-pass

The Minister for Transport, Martin Cullen, opened a motorway by-pass of Rathcormac and Fermoy in north Cork today.

The motorway, which was completed on budget and eight months ahead of schedule, will be tolled and is Ireland's third public private partnership motorway project.

It is expected to result in 17,000 heavy goods vehicles and cars being removed from the traffic flow through Fermoy and Rathcormac.

It took 27 months to build and involved 400 construction staff at peak times. The toll charge for cars will be ¤1.60.
