A third man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a garda sergeant in Crumlin, Dublin, yesterday morning.
The 17-year-old is being questioned at Rathmines Garda Station in connection with the shooting of Sergeant Mark Clarke, who was hit in the chest and hand.
It has emerged today that he was shot with a single barrel sawn-off shotgun after he approached a parked car.
Gardaí say he managed to turn sideways and his cap - which was under his arm - took some of the force of the shotgun blast.
A 16-year-old and a 22-year-old are still being questioned in relation to the shooting, one of whom had to be taken to hospital following his arrest for treatment for a cocaine overdose.
The two were arrested at the scene following a struggle and after the gunman had pointed the gun at a female garda and ordered her to back off.
