A court has heard that two men were spotted by gardaí driving at up to 200km/h on the N4 in Mullingar, Co Westmeath last May.
The defendants appeared at Mullingar District Court this morning where they were fined €2,000 each after being convicted of dangerous driving.
They are Alberto Rizzini of Port Loman, Mullingar, and Tommie Gorman of Milltown Pass, Co Westmeath.
In handing down the fines, Judge John Neilan said that he had to be conscious of previous sentencing in such cases and he said in many instances a disqualification was not handed down.
Solicitor for the men, John Quinn, said they were both of previous good character and had co-operated fully with gardaí. He added that their actions were totally out of character.
