Beaumont Hospital - Internal inquiry

Beaumont Hospital in Dublin has confirmed it is carrying out an internal inquiry after additional organs were found in the body of a man who underwent a post mortem examination there.

Earlier, it was reported that an additional heart and pair of lungs were found in the remains of the 55-year-old British man who died while holidaying in Ireland.

The discovery was made when a second post mortem was carried out on his body in the UK before burial.

A spokesman for Beaumont said the inquiry could lead to disciplinary proceedings being taken against hospital staff, but in the meantime, the hospital could not comment any further.

Parents for Justice, the group campaigning on the issue of post mortems and organ retention, has said it is horrified at the incident.
