There has been a big fish kill on the Clarin River, at Athenry in Co Galway.
Pollution from sewage is being blamed.
Hundreds of trout and salmon have so far been killed and it is feared this could rise to thousands as the pollution moves downstream.
Galway County Council is working to rectify the problem with the assistance of the Fisheries Board.
