Chocolate bars recalled over salmonella scare

Cadbury Ireland has recalled just under 20,000 chocolate bars in a precautionary move because the bars may contain traces of salmonella.

A spokeswoman said that there were minute traces of salmonella, which were significantly below those levels which scientific standards say present any hazard.

She added that there has been no connection between the chocolate and anybody becoming ill from it.

The precautionary recall involves two products on sale in Ireland, 250g bars of Dairy Milk Turkish and 250g bars of Dairy Milk Caramel.

Cadbury Ireland said it had identified the source of the problem and rectified it and was taking steps to ensure the products are no longer available for sale.

The company expects to have fresh stocks of these products back on the market in the near future.

It said the decision to recall the chocolate bars had been made in consultation with the Food Standards Agency.
