The Garda Representative Association's national executive is to meet next week to discuss an invitation from the Justice Minister for further talks on the detail of the upcoming Garda Reserve.
The proposal was made during a meeting this evening between Michael McDowell and the GRA.
At the meeting, Mr McDowell gave the GRA the draft regulations for the reserve, which he proposes shortly bringing before the Oireachtas Justice Committee.
The minister later told reporters that the commitment to introduce a Garda Reserve would be honoured by the Government and would happen within months.
The GRA's national executive will meet over the coming days to discuss the latest developments, including the invitation to meet Department of Justice Officials to discuss the reserve.
Speaking after this evening's meeting with Mr McDowell, the GRA General Secretary, PJ Stone, said Mr McDowell had offered garda representative bodies the opportunity to participate in a working group to discuss the contentious issues in respect of the reserve.
