The Minister for Education has said she is surprised and annoyed by the suddenness of news of the closure of St Michael's CBS school in Inchicore in Dublin.
Addressing the Dáil's Education and Science committee, Mary Hanafin, said she had not been informed of the decision by the Christian Brothers.
She said her department heard it first from the media.
Yesterday, RTÉ News revealed that the Christian Brothers had decided to close the school.
Meanwhile, around 50 parents and local representatives protested outside the school earlier.
Parents have called Ms Hanafin to insure the school stays open.
