Iraqi and US officials have called for calm following yesterday's suicide bomb attack on a Shia mosque in Baghdad.

The attack, believed to have been carried out by three suicide bombers, killed at least 79 people and injured 160 others.

A US spokesman, Sean McCormack, condemned the attack and said the American government would work with Iraqi authorities to try to prevent similar attacks.

The Iraqi President, Jalal Talabani, said the attack was an attempt to derail the political process and fuel a sectarian conflict.
