Cambodian girl dies from bird flu

The World Health Organisation has confirmed that a three-year-old Cambodian girl has died of the deadly strain of bird flu, the virus's first human victim in the country in nearly a year.

Cambodian officials said the girl had been in contact with sick and dying chickens.

A WHO spokeswoman confirmed that the girl had tested positive for the H5N1 strain of the virus.

The UN body said that before the latest incident 184 people were known to have been infected with H5N1 worldwide since 2003, of whom 103 had died.
