West Bank raid leaves one dead

A Palestinian activist has been killed and another wounded in an Israeli army raid on the West Bank town of Jericho.

The Islamic Jihad member died when Israeli soldiers opened fire after trying to talk him into surrendering at a house in the Akbar Jaber refugee camp.

Two other Jihad activists were arrested during the operation, one of whom was wounded during the operation.

The raid came a day after ten Palestinians were arrested in a van outside Jerusalem with explosives it is suspected were for use in a suicide bomb attack.

Israel has been on high alert for possible suicide bombings in the run-up to its 28 March national elections.
