Two people were shot dead and three wounded when gunmen opened fire on a Turkmen Shia mosque in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk.

Meanwhile in Baquba, northeast of Baghdad, a young girl was killed and eight people hurt by the explosion of a roadside bomb, while five policemen were also injured in another bomb explosion on the outskirts of the town.

Elsewhere, at least seven people have been killed and another 20 were wounded in a mortar bomb attack in Baghdad.

Local police said the bomb landed in a crowded market near a bus station.

The attack came as a daytime curfew was lifted.

In another incident, two civilians were killed and three policemen were wounded in a car bomb attack in a town southeast of Baghdad.

Separately, the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has said his decision to go to war against Iraq would be judged by God.

Mr Blair has previously been reluctant to speak of his religious beliefs.

In an interview with Michael Parkinson to be televised tonight, Mr Blair said he struggled with his conscience when considering whether to send troops.
